Welcome to my Homepage
I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at The University of Pretoria, South Africa. My research interests are mainly in group theory, combinatorics and algebraic coding theory, but I am generally interested in most areas of pure maths.
My research interests are in the theory of finite groups, modular representation theory and combinatorial design theory, and the links of these to algebraic coding theory, algebraic graph theory and permutation decoding. Current research now includes working on problems related with the classification of axial algebras from sporadic simple groups and groups of 3-transposition. Most recently I have been working on classification problems related to the determination of binary self-dual codes which admit rank 3 groups as permutation groups of automorphisms. I have also made moderate contributions towards an understanding of the dynamics of epidemiological disease transmission, using classical methods of difference equations and networks in graph theory.
